1.0 Introduction

On the 16th of June to July, 2023 I started a 5-week Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) Course on The Strategy of Content Marketing with the rationale of wanting to develop my communication and content marketing ability in order to improve upon my entrepreneurship in education. As an edupreneur and education policy advocate, I needed to learn to communicate effectively, professionally and with authority. My works have not gained much attention on social media and other platforms even though I try my best and I felt that could be changed with the Content Marketing skills developed. I will also need to train others who may need this skill, especially the Marketing and Public Relations Officer (MPRO) of my organization in order to boost our customer base.

This course is ran on Coursera by the University of California, Davis and the lead tutor is Sonia Simone, Chief Content Officer of Copyblogger Media, LLC – United States of America. I was supposed to complete the course on July 21st 2023 but due to other engagements completed it on the 27th of August, 2023. The following modules were covered for the five weeks:

Week 1: The Content Marketing Ecosystem

Week 2: The Strategic Context (7A Framework)

Week 3: Mapping the Journey: Crafting a Content Marketing Strategy

Week 4: The Strategic Types of Content

Week 5: Managing Your Content

2.0 The Learning Experience

The learning materials used

Sonia’s lectures were both in the form of videos and text. She employed the services of Brian and others who developed podcasts for some aspects of her lessons. The system is automated to check progress and help learners follow the lessons without skipping – you have to respond to questions during the video lessons in order to proceed.

The specific assignments, quizzes and projects you participated in;

There were quizzes and peer-review assignments as well as optional discussions on all modules. Other students commented on comments; peer-review assignments were reviewed by students and I also got the opportunity to review other’s works. Quizzes were scored and graded immediately they are taken. And they were taken at the end of every module before progress is granted to the next module. Below is one of my scores:

Major learning outcomes

I have developed the ability to write to convince ethically and professionally. Specifically, I have gained understanding into:

       i.          What the Content Marketing Ecosystem is.

ii.          The formulae for scribing a Strategic Context (7A Framework)

iii.          The skills for Mapping and Crafting a Content to attract and persuade existing and prospective clients.

iv.          The different Strategic Types of Content that can be used for different purposes. And finally,

     v.          How to Manage Content legally and ethically.

3.0 Conclusion

Reflections on the Iron Triangle (Cost, Access, and Quality) in the context of the MOOCS experience

With this course running online for free, I have been able to learn the skill that will serve as an impetus for promoting my organization professionally globally at a self-paced duration and with materials of the highest quality. I have also added to my skills for managing online classes and will make that too practical.

Reflections on whether or not the learning outcomes were achieved

The course did not end before I started using the skills. I have created a blog and a site for my activities in order to keep a portfolio of my works electronically. The contents of my writings have started changing into becoming more attractive and persuasive because of the course.

Lessons learned from participating in a MOOC and Challenges

One major lesson learnt from this other MOOCs programs pursued is that online learning is more flexible and convenient for my learning abilities and time because I am the night owl type and  so enjoy studying at night. One challenge however, is that the MOOCs I took did not have a place for interacting with the faculty on issues that may need redress.

MOOCs have a lot to offer in terms of human resource development and upgrade (training and continuous professional development of personnel) because it is practically a full learning environment offered freely in terms of tuition fee and less costly comparatively. The flexible but the persuasive nature of the content of the course is also unique to pushing learners to complete their courses.
